How to Pass any Exams with Ease

Six (6) Simple Steps in Passing Exams with ease

Many people think passing exams is difficult but Passing Exams with ease is very real. The only time you face difficulties in any exams, is when you don’t have enough information on the subject before the exams. This can be dangerous because you may go into an examination hall with the intension of seeking help. Below are the steps you can use to pass your exams. You must study smarter, not harder.

  1. Spread out your studying

The vast number of students spends relatively low number of hours studying and progressively increases it when examination is fast approaching. They further increase their study time when is two or one week to exams.

Many students now put pressure on themselves to consume a lot of things within the short period they have to exams. But as we knew it, the brain needs time to assimilate what is been taught. Even with any computing device, it may freeze or shut when you forcefully try to load it with multiple contents to process at a time.

Beginning of a term or semester set a goal of the number of study hours (e.g. 8 hours a day). Ensure to study with the same hours all through the semester. Now this helps you because, it gives you time to assimilate what has been learnt. You also get time to research the difficult topics before examination.  This is when you don’t have any pressure for study.  Beginning of a term/Semester, you are not burden with a lot of assignments so you have the time to understand everything you study. You can watch documentaries and YouTube videos on the things you’ve learnt. As you progress through the semester, your 8 hours remains the same towards the end of the semester, others will now put pressure on themselves to increase theirs at the end.  This leads to little or no preparedness of students during exams.

  1. Eliminate Psuedo-Studying

Pseudo-Studying is when you are with your phone and books studying but not really taking in the information. At this point, you are studying more of filling in the gap or for what others will say, studying for studying sake. Prioritize Past Questions if you are in school. Past Questions are essential to passing exams. About 90% of very good students I know all through my education used Past Questions a lot. Let it be your guide as you study your textbook since, it guides you to learn only the relevant information. Do not get me wrong, it’s good to read every information, but when studying for your exams in school, you must prepare for the exam. Practice more before you write any form of assignment. Use 2 to 3 hours for research and 3 hours for the assignment.

  1. Active Engagement

I see a lot of students make this mistake everyday. They always say they study all day and actively yet their grades don’t match the amount of study they’ve done. This is because they are only reading instead of actively engaging with the material. Relating in their minds what they are reading to happenings around them. Active engagement is the process of construction meaning from the material. Basically, thinking about what you are reading. This is where you ask the questions and try to answer them yourself. What it does not mean is highlighting text or re-reading texts. Active study is when you learn as a teacher to re-teach colleagues.

  1. Avoid Multitasking

It occurs when you are reading two different subjects at a time or playing with your phone or laptop whiles learning. People who concentrate on their studies alone, gets good grades. I always say, exhaust the time set for your study before attending to other things. You can rather use the phone to time yourself or put it away to avoid the temptation of using it.

  1. The Distributed Practice Technique

One of the most efficient ways of studying is distributed practice. Spacing out your studies for short periods or days or weeks. This was proposed on a book titled “The Psychology of Study” by Prof. CA. Mace.

It reads, “Perhaps the most important discoveries are those which relate to the appropriate distribution of the periods of study. Acts of revision should be spaced in gradually increasing intervals, roughly intervals of one day, two days, four days, eight days and so on”.

You can study or revise on each course or subject for 30 minutes every day.

  1. Find out Method

The find out method is simple and very effective. There is a saying that “to know the actual distance ahead of you, ask those coming back”. Find out from your seniors, old students, teachers about the course or subject. If they have ever faced difficulties in studying it and the strategies the used to pass. If they claim to fail the subject, device your own means to study it. Spend more time studying and researching on it.

Note: You can achieve anything you put your minds to. Follow this steps religiously and change your grades.
