GES Academic Calendar 2023 For SHS/SHTS
The Ghana Education Service has finally released the New GES Academic Calendar 2023 For Senior High Schools in Ghana. According to the new arrangements made by the Ministry of Education, GES, double track is a thing of the past.
This was mentioned in the calendar proposal 2023 that “No Double Track for grade level, however, only two year group of the three cohorts of students are in school at any period in time for the 2023”.
“The proposed calendar ensures that each year group meets or exceeds the total minimum contact hours of 3,402 hours over the course of the three years” as further stated.

NEW: Revised 2023 GES Academic Calendar For SHS/SHTS
Again, teachers to take note on the transitional calendar that SHS 3 may not have the luxury of time to enjoy long vacations due to the limited time they have left to sit for WASSCE 2023.
As mentioned in the 2023 GES Academic Calendar, “due to the start of the calendar in January 2023, SHS 3 cannot enjoy prolonged break. This is to allow SHS 1 and SHS 2 to be in school as well”.
“This means that the calendar will have to be fine-tune so that SHS 3 students can attend class continuously from January 2023 through the end of September 2023, when the WASSCE ends” as stated.
“In the transitional option, two (2) of the three (3) year groups must be in school at a given time.”
“In addition, the Colleges of Education have received an increase in their schools’ enrolment as a result of the Free Senior High School programme which required short term solution.”
In the final statement of GES, “the 2023 calendar ensures that teachers get a break“.

Vacation (1 session): 22nd April, 2023 to 18th June, 2023.
School in Section (2nd session): 19th June, 2023 to 4th August, 2023.
Vacation (2 session): 5th August to 1st October, 2023.
Total Number of Weeks for 2023 academic year: 27 Weeks
Total Contact Hours: 1,080 hours
Total Days: 137
SHS 2
School in Section (1 session): 9th January, 2023 to 9th March, 2023.
Vacation (1 session): 10th March, 2023 to 21st April, 2023.
School in Section (2nd session): 24th April, 2023 to 2nd June, 2023.
Vacation (2 session): 3rd June to 6th August, 2023.
Total Number of Weeks for 2023 academic year: 33 Weeks
Total Contact Hours: 1,320 hours
Total Days: 166

School in Section (1 session): 9th January, 2023 to 17th February, 2023.
Vacation (1 session): 18th February, 2023 to 12th March, 2023.
School in Section (2nd session): 13th March, 2023 to 2nd June, 2023.
Vacation (2 session): 3rd June to 18th June, 2023.
