GES Boss Fired

The Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, has been shown Red Card.

GES Boss Fired after reaching the retirement age but was still at post despite calls from the public for him to do the honorable thing by resigning.

The appointment of the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa has been terminated by the President. This was made known to him by the the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, written on behalf of the number one gentleman of the land, the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

In a letter dated 17th October, 2022, Director General, boldly captioned, Termination of secondement to the Ghana Education Service from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

It was detailed in the letter that “Reference is made to my letter dated 22nd January, 2022, informing you that the President of the Republic has appointed you as the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service and another letter, dated 14th June, 2021, extending your secondment from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to the Ghana Education Service. Copies of the letters are attached for your ease of reference.”

Further stated in the letter reads, the Ministry of Education has informed the Office of the President that the exigencies that required Prof Opoku-Amankwa’s skills and expertise do not exist any longer.

Nana Asante Bediatuo mentioned in the letter that the extension was in contravention of the Human Resource Policy Framework and Manual of the Public Service Commission. And it reads, “Moreover, the extension of Prof Opoku-Amankwa’s secondment by the 14th June, 2021 letter is in contravention of the Human Resource Policy Framework and Manual of the Public Services Commission, as it purports to extend your secondment beyond 3-year maximum limit” as stated in the letter.

“Accordingly, the President of the Republic has instructed that your secondment be terminated forthwith, and you are directed to return to your position at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.”

But Nana Asante Bediatuo’s letter noted that the extension was in contravention of the Human Resource Policy Framework and Manual of the Public Services Commission.
